The approach

These businesses don't need another diagnosis. They need someone to own the fix.

Paddy Benson works alongside CEOs, founders and leadership teams through periods of significant change. He takes accountability for outcomes, not just recommendations.

Over three decades, Paddy has run organisations large and small across Europe, North America and beyond, in startups, scale-ups and global enterprises. He has also advised and mentored companies and their leadership teams.

When a problem needs more than one person, Paddy acts as lead partner. He assembles a team from an extensive network of operators and specialists he has worked with and trusts, and stays accountable for the result.

Areas of expertise

Where Paddy creates value.

He assesses fast, decides what must change, and drives it into execution across the operating model and the technology beneath it.

E—01

Transformation & turnaround

Assess fast, decide what must change, drive it into execution.

Took on JoinedUp as a brittle platform and grew revenue 30% inside 21 months while stabilising it. At IONA, consolidated three product lines into one repositioned offering that generated over $10m in its first two quarters through a 50% reduction in force.

E—02

Scaling & growth

Navigating the stage changes that break operating models.

Built Utmost from zero to trade sale in four years, winning Unilever, AstraZeneca and DoorDash. Mentored the Soundwave exec team from first raise to Spotify acquisition. Shipped platforms at scale for Verizon, Vodafone, T-Mobile and AT&T (one serving 18 million subscribers).

E—03

Operational excellence

Structure, prioritisation, accountability, throughput.

Lifted delivery throughput 60% at JoinedUp with no increase in cost base, and reduced cost to serve at both JoinedUp and Utmost. Moved IONA from one release a year to one a quarter, and standardised delivery and uptime across Groupon Engineering.

E—04

High-performing teams

Organisational design, talent, culture, leadership.

Strengthened the JoinedUp leadership team cost-neutrally through redesign and targeted hiring. Held an 80-person organisation across Ireland, the US and Canada together through a 50% cut. Built engineering organisations from nothing at Utmost, Groupon Dublin, and NewBay.

E—05

M&A, integration & transition

Both sides of the table and the years after the deal closes.

Co-founded Utmost and sold it to Beeline in 2022, then operated inside the acquirer for four years, ultimately running one of its business units. On the deal team through NewBay's two acquisitions in 14 months. Integrated Ambeo Technologies into Prime Carrier. Coached the leadership team at Soundwave from founding through to Spotify acquisition.

E—06

AI, data & automation

Practical application over experiments.

Set a 2× productivity goal for JoinedUp and built AI-agent governance and coordination frameworks for an organisation running multiple independent AI workstreams. Among other tools, the team delivered a full agentic content-marketing system from scratch, generating content, leads and targeted prospects. Held global ownership of Groupon's BI and enterprise data warehouse.

When to bring Paddy in

The moments he's built for.

If one or more of these is true, it's probably time for a conversation.

  • A business is underperforming and someone needs to own the fix, not just diagnose it.
  • Growth is outpacing the operating model and what worked at the last stage has stopped working.
  • There's a leadership gap at COO, CTO or GM level that needs covering now, not in six months.
  • Post-acquisition, integration has stalled or an acquired business unit needs a credible operator.
  • Product and technology spend isn't translating into commercial or customer outcomes.
  • Delivery is slow, unpredictable or expensive, and nobody can say why.
  • A team isn't performing, and the cause is structural rather than individual.
  • The business is being prepared for a raise, a sale, or its next stage of scale.
